    IESA Games-Behavior Issues

    Please read below::::

    Dear Officials,
    Thank you for working IESA regular season and post-season boys basketball games.
    Over the past week, we have seen an increase in negative behaviors among players, coaches, and fans in boys basketball and quite a few concussion reports. Like the girls game, the physicality of the boys game has increased. We ask that you please consider the following for the remainder of the regular season and post-season .

    1. **We would like officials to call a quick jump ball anytime players are tied up with the ball. **This will eliminate players constantly reaching in or being tossed from a play where the ball is tied up and prevent possible injury.
    2. We do not want the flow of the game to be affected by constant stoppage in play, but we also do not want games to be overly physical. It is our opinion that if the game is called consistently tight early, it should make the game more manageable, and teams will be able to adjust their style of play.
    3. **I attended a Jr. High game recently and witnessed quite a bit of negative behaviors displayed by players after fouls were called, i.e., palms-up gestures. Please do not allow this type of behavior. Please have a quiet conversation, warning the player that behavior will not be tolerated. **
    4. Lastly, if you are having issues with fans, please do not address the fans or the crowd. Addressing the crowd only escalates the situation and makes matters worse. Please locate game administration and have them address the fan(s).
      Again, we appreciate your willingness to work IESA basketball games and all that you do for the youth of Illinois!

    Sincerely,
          Chris Frasco
